Words This Week- 5

The spartan interiors seemed to make a mockery of the extravagant exterior of the house. The house itself seemed incongruous in the poor locality. People always spoke of the owners of the house in a disparaging tone, since the profligacy of the owners never failed to exacerbate the poor people. The family also had the proverbial prodigal daughter, whose raucous parties were the talk of the town, and what she called music, others believed it to be pure noise. People said the owner’s son was the only level-headed person in the entire family. He worked as a lawyer, but left his profession to become the curator of the local museum. His erudition was matched by very few in the entire town.
